The charitable purposes of the SCIO will govern the awarding of grants.
The level of grant award will be determined by the flow of community benefit funds into East Lothian. For 2026/27 the anticipated total amount available will be around £30,000. Individual grants are unlikely to exceed £5,000, unless the circumstances are exceptional.

Any request for grant support that is part of a larger application, where the charity’s money can help to attract more money to East Lothian will be of particular interest.
Eighteen Community Councils in East Lothian are members of East Lothian Community Benefits SCIO, and the other two Community Councils are aware that East Lothian Community Benefits SCIO is working on their behalf too.
East Lothian Community Benefits SCIO’s primary aim is to secure the maximum Community Benefits for East Lothian as a whole. East Lothian Community Benefits SCIO is aligned with the Government’s current draft proposal that the communities that are physically affected by the renewable energy developments should be supported first. Thereafter the Community Benefits can be spread more widely across the whole of the county. Over the next decades, working together, we will be able to make East Lothian a better place to live in for all residents.
